Philadelphia County - Kimmerle & Son Funeral Home Records - January 1929 - April 1969

In January of 2011 GSP accepted a generous donation of funeral home records from the daughter of Louis Kimmerle. Louis was the son of John Charles Kimmerle, original founder of the Kimmerle Funeral Home, the first location which was established at 1613 S. 6th Street in Philadelphia.

Sometime ca. 1918 John Kimmerle opened another funeral home location at 2127 N. Broad Street, where his sons eventually joined him in the business. The records contained in this collection which have been most recently donated to GSP are from this later location on North Broad Street and span the time period from January 1929 through March 1969. These records are divided in five volumes, dated as follows:

Volume 1 - January 3, 1929 through July 29, 1931

Volume 2 - August 12, 1931 through December 14, 1935

Volume 3 - January 4, 1936 through January 2, 1947

Volume 4 - January 2, 1947 through October 30, 1956

Volume 5 - November 4, 1956 through April 23, 1969

Long-time GSP volunteer Mary Phalan has completed indexes for each volume which can be viewed below:
