4th Annual "On the Trail of Perry County History" Bus Tour
Gristmills of Perry County
It's time once again for our Annual "On the Trail of Perry County History"
Bus Tour. This year the tour subject will be Gristmills of Perry County.
Gary Eby has graciously volunteered to help us coordinate this year's tour.
For those who are unfamiliar, Gary is the son of Ruth Eby and the late
Eugene Eby, author of the book, Perry County Gristmills.
Our tour date is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2012. We will meet at
the east area of Little Buffalo State Park and tour the beautifully
refurbished Shoaff's Mill. From there, we will board the bus and continue
on to stop at several additional sites including Wentzel's Bridgeport Mill
as well as a few mills that have been out of use for quite some time. We
will also be driving by several abandoned mill sites along the route.
Please note: Most of the mills have steep steps and are not handicap
accessible. Tour goers should keep in mind that the buildings we will be
visiting are not museums. Therefore, it is NOT recommended to wear one's
"Sunday Best" and sturdy, comfortable footwear is a must.
The cost of each ticket will be $35.00. This includes bus fare and lunch,
which will be served by St. Paul's Church at Andersonburg. On the menu is
ham with all the trimmings and lots of home-made desserts. Reservations are
DUE BY Wednesday, March 7th. But don't wait until the last minute, this one
is sure to fill up fast and space is limited. Spaces will be filled on a
first come - first served basis with the postmark date on the reservation /
payment envelope being used. Please remember that all tourists MUST be on
board the bus. For safety, we can have NO CARS following in convoy fashion.
The tour of Shoaff's Mill will begin promptly at 8:30 am. Please plan to be
there 15 minutes early to check in so that we may start the tour on time and
be able to proceed to our next stop on schedule.
