Design Spotlight: The Story Behind Our New Logo
Every element of GSP’s new logo was thoughtfully crafted to reflect who we are and what we do. Instead of a full tree, the mark features a single branch, representing the personal nature of each researcher’s journey and the individual paths that together form a much larger story. On that branch, three distinct leaves symbolize our core pillars: education, research, and community — each essential, each growing, and all connected through GSP’s work across Pennsylvania and beyond.
The branch and leaves are sheltered within a glass preservation dome, a powerful nod to our commitment to protecting not just records, but the research, relationships, and family legacies that those records represent. The dome signals care, stewardship, and longevity—GSP’s promise to safeguard Pennsylvania’s genealogical history and the stories our members uncover every day.
Our New Color Story
Just as every line in a family tree holds meaning, every shade in GSP’s new visual identity tells part of our story. The palette is inspired by the deep jewel tones of books that line library stacks around the country and the world—the emeralds, burgundys, and ink-like hues that signal knowledge, patience, and the quiet thrill of research. These colors evoke the feeling of wandering through the stacks, arms full of promising volumes, ready to uncover the next piece of a family’s past.

Balancing those rich tones are colors drawn from the aged documents genealogists cherish: the warm, mellowed papers, faded inks, and gently worn edges of records handled across generations. This side of the palette reflects the fragility and resilience of historical materials, reminding us that each certificate, deed, or handwritten letter is a bridge between past and present.
Together, these colors create a visual language that feels both scholarly and welcoming — grounded in tradition yet vibrant and alive. They set the stage for a refreshed visual identity in which every element, from our logo to our layouts, reflects the depth, warmth, and energy of GSP’s mission. From our signature programming like Third Thursdays and the member-only Gatherings sessions to access to the Pennsylvania Lineage Society, the logo and new branding is a visual shorthand for the impact our community creates together.
Over the coming weeks, you’ll see this logo and its variations appear across social media, presentations, brochures, and in person and virtually at conferences. We’re building toward the launch of our updated website in the upcoming months. We invite you to watch for these changes, share your impressions, and help us introduce GSP’s renewed look to fellow researchers and family historians.
