In 1710 Swiss and German Mennonites established settlements on the Pequea Creek in the interior regions of Chester County, Pennsylvania.These early Mennonites, the first settlers in this region, were not alone for very long; French Hugenots established their settlements in the Pequea Valley in 1711.English Quakers soon followed and began to purchase and clear land in the Salisbury Township region, while the Scotch-Irish settled on tracts of land in townships in the far northwest and southern portions of the county. In 1718 several Welsh families migrated to Caernarfon Township
