The Shamokin Canal boat, a weekly newspaper printed in German, was published 1827-1833 by John G. Youngman.1 A handwritten English translation of marriages and deaths abstracted from those issues is in the Heher Gossler Gearhart collection.2 In the 1970s those translated abstracts were typed and indexed by GSP volunteer Rita Schive Mowrer.’ The items below are from Mowrer, who noted that the handwriting in Gearhart made it difficult to determine the proper spelling of some names.
