The Fellows of the Genealogical Society program was established in 1950 to honor extraordinary achievement in genealogical research and publishing and in the genealogical community.
“Over the years, much distinguished work has been done in this Society by its members and now the Board of Directors feels that some special recognition should be given to those who have participated in this achievement. At its meeting in June, the Board decided to establish a group of Fellows and to elect from time to time those distinguished for the excellence of their work in this field.”
“The qualifications which nominees for this honor must meet were proscribed by the Board of Directors as follows:
- They must be members of this Society who are known for their scholarly work in the field of genealogical research and for their unquestioned integrity.
- They must be authors or compilers of published genealogical material of recognized merit or be recognized as occupying a position of exceptional merit in the profession of genealogical research.”
