Reference Requests and Visiting GSP

GSP does not offer phone consultations.  We require that all reference requests be in writing.

The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania does not provide research services at other facilities. You can hire a researcher who can go to other facilities by going to the directory of the Board for Certification of Professional Genealogists.

Check the following research resources before inquiring.  You will find many of your “where to find” questions answered.  Research Suggestions to begin your research

Pennsylvania and New Jersey Church and Town Records is a GSP collection which is now housed at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and is on Ancestry.com.

We provide reference assistance and guidance, rather than detailed research. When you contact us, please include the exact names, dates (exact or approximate) and location (exact or approximate) that you are searching.  Also, please let us know where you already have searched (Ancestry, Family Search, GSP website) and what you have found. GSP does not undertake research on living people.

We encourage researchers to search our website before requesting our help.  We do not have birth, marriage, and death certificates or other records usually collected and maintained by the county governments, which are often requested. We encourage everyone to use our county research guides for information on where to find records in other repositories.
