Moselem Church Records and St. Peter’s Reformed Church
Richmond Township, Berks County PA
The Moselem Church is located in Richmond Township about three miles due
west of Kutztown. It is reached by a blacktop road which turns off to the tight
about one and one-half miles west of Kutztown on U.S. Route 222.
Moselem Church is the oldest Lutheran Church in the northeastern part of
Berks County. The Reverend Johan Casper Stoever mentions baptisms at Moselem
as early as 1735. A memorandum on a loose sheet of paper found in the church
book mentions a church there in 1737» By 1761 the congregation had increased so
much that a new church was built in that year.
