“PENNSYLVANIA BIRTHS
Chester County
1682-1800”

William Penn made his initial Pennsylvania landfall at Upland on 30 October 1682 and named the area “Chester” at the suggestion of several Friends whose origins could be traced to the English county and town of that name. The county of Chester, Pennsylvania, was officially established less than one month later, in November 1682. As one of Pennsylvania’s three original counties, Chester was the birthplace of many people who relocated to other areas of the United States. Most of the early church and meeting records for this county can be found only in manuscript form
